en Le Voile du Bonheur (‘The Veil of Happiness’) (1966/1971)<br/><br/><br/>Duration: 7’<br/><br/>Le Voile du Bonheur has two stories attached to it. It started off as a contribution to a collection of didactic violin music to be written by Reinbert de Leeuw (this collection never came into existence). Later, Andriessen added a teenage tune to it. The piece was written in 1966-1971, for the duo Vera Beths (violin) and Stanley Hoogland (piano).<br/><br/>The teenage tune was originally written in Dutch. A rough translation follows:<br/><br/>I was walking through the Central Park<br/>where I saw a guy from my school<br/>Hey! My lovely Bert, where are you goin’?<br/>I'll walk a ways with you to your house.<br/><br/>At Bert’s house we drank a cup of tea<br/>Berties’ mother brought us some cookies<br/>Hey! My lovely Bert, what are you doin’?<br/>If you would kiss me then I’d kiss you too!<br/>Later I called Bertie on the phone<br/>Bertie's mother said he was indisposed!<br/>Bertie lay with high fever in bed<br/>Still delirious he said<br/>"I have a..."<br/><br/>Translation: Monica Germino<br/>
nl Le Voile du Bonheur heeft twee verhalen. Het begon als een bijdrage aan een verzameling didactische vioolmuziek die geschreven zou worden door Reinbert de Leeuw (deze verzameling is er nooit gekomen). Later voegde Andriessen er een tienerdeuntje aan toe. Het stuk werd geschreven in 1966-1971, voor het duo Vera Beths (viool) en Stanley Hoogland (piano).<br/><br/>De tienermelodie was oorspronkelijk in het Nederlands geschreven. <br/><br/>Laatst, toen liep ik door het Vondelpark. Daar zag ik een knul uit mijn klas.<br/>Hé! mijn mooie Bert, waar ga jij heen? Ik loop een stukje met je mee naar huis.<br/>Thuis bij Bertje dronken wij wat thee. Bertjes moeder bracht wat koekjes mee. He! mijn mooie Bert, wat doe jij nou? Als jij wilt vrijen dan vrij ik graag mee!<br/>Later heb ik Bertje opgebeld.<br/>Bertjes moeder zei: Hij was ongesteld! Bertje lag met hoge koorts in bed, ijlde steeds, waarbij hij zei:<br/>“Ik heb een ... (ng)\t-----”
